The US Mint had previously issued silver dollars with the Silver Seated Liberty Dollar from the 1830s until 1873. After a five-year hiatus in silver dollar production, the mint released the new Silver Morgan Dollar with fresh designs of Liberty and the American bald eagle from George T. Morgan.
All of these Silver Morgan Dollars are available in Mint State 65 condition. Coins at this grade level have an above-average mint luster with a few small contact marks scattered throughout the field, one or two larger marks, and the potential for small patches of hairlines.
Please note that Silver.com selects all coins in this listing after your payment has cleared. We guarantee that all of these coins come with an MS65 certification, but cannot guarantee details such as the date mark, mint mark, and specific grading house label. If you buy more than one coin, you could get specimens with the same date, mint mark, and grading house label.
On the obverse of Silver Morgan Dollar Coins is a depiction of Lady Liberty. This design was created in 1878 by George T. Morgan for the first release of these coins in 1878. The portrait shows the bust of Liberty in left-profile relief wearing a Phrygian cap on her head with a coronet crown and laurel wreath. There are 13 stars on this side of the coin and an inscription of the date mark.
The reverse side of the Silver Morgan Dollar comes with a depiction of the heraldic eagle. This design also comes from Morgan and was developed with the image of a front-facing bald eagle with its wings spread wide. The eagle does not come with a US national shield, but it does clutch the arrows of war and the olive branch of peace in its talons. The eagle is flanked by a wreath of oak and laurel.
