With the introduction of the Gold Double Eagle in 1850, the United States Mint struck its highest-denomination coin in history. The Gold Double Eagle had a face value of $20 (USD) and was largely used for high-value transactions between businesses and for money transfers between banks. Today, Pre-33 Gold $20 Liberty Double Eagle Four-Coin Sets are available to you online at Silver.com.

Coin Set Highlights:

  • Available to ship to you inside individual protective flips!
  • Date marks range from 1850 to 1907!
  • Comes with random date marks!
  • Extremely Fine specimens!
  • Consists of .9675 Troy ounces of actual gold content per coin.
  • The individual face values of $20 (USD) are fully backed by the US government.
  • On the obverse is a bust of Lady Liberty.
  • The reverse side of the coin depicts heraldic eagle.
  • Please bear in mind you may get a set with random dates or varied dates.

The design on the Gold Liberty Double Eagle was modified by James B. Longacre in 1849 when proof strikes were produced to test the design. Longacre was the 4th Chief Engraver of the United States Mint and succeeded Christian Gobrecht, the man who had developed the Liberty Head design in 1838 for the Quarter Eagle, Half Eagle, and Eagle coins. Gobrecht died in 1844 after serving for four years as the 3rd Chief Engraver of the United States Mint.

All of the coins in the Pre-33 Gold $20 Liberty Double Eagle Four-Coin Set come in Extremely Fine condition. This means the coins have light wear on the highest points of relief and the potential for some traces of the original mint luster to be present. Please bear in mind that Silver.com does not guarantee the dates of the four coins in your set. The set may feature four different dates or four matching dates.

On the obverse field of Gold $20 Liberty Double Eagles in this set is the left-profile bust of Liberty. Designed by Gobrecht in 1838 and modified in 1849 by Longacre, the portrait shows Liberty with a coronet crown and 13 stars around the design.

The reverse side of the Pre-33 Gold $20 Liberty Double Eagles in this Four-Coin Set offers a depiction of the heraldic eagle of the United States. This front-facing eagle supports the US national shield while clutching the arrows of war and the olive branch of peace. Coins issued from 1850 to 1866 have no national motto, while coins issued from late 1866 onward have the national motto. Additionally, coins dated after 1877 have the face value as TWENTY DOLLARS rather than TWENTY D.

Where does your spot price come from?

We use a live, up-to-the-second spot price feed supplied by Xignite.com, a worldwide leader in the data supply market.

Are your products actually in stock?

Yes. We are one of the few bullion dealers in the industry who only deems products "in stock" when we have them on-hand and ready to ship immediately. In the instance of a presale item, we denote that the product is on presale and the estimated shipping date. While we make the best efforts to hit presale dates, the dates are only estimates, given we cannot control mint production issues and/or carrier dealyes.

Why are multiple prices listed?

We offer a 4% discount to "cash" paying customers - with paper check, bank wire, and bitcoin payments being defined as cash. On many products, we are also able to offer volume discounts to customers purchasing large quantities of the same item. All volume pricing is laid out in the chart on the product's description page, as well as in the cart.

When do I lock in my price?

All prices are locked in at the time of purchase. Credit/debit card, PayPal, BitCoin, Ethereum, and Ripple orders are paid at the time of checkout, while paper check and bank wire orders require a credit/debit card on file to lock in your pricing while we await your payment. Please note, paper check and bank wire orders will NOT result in a charge to your card - we simple maintain the card on file while we await full payment by your selected payment method.

Do you ship internationally?

We currently only ship to addresses in the United States, including APOs.
