The Gold Double Eagle coin from the United States Mint has gone down in history as a popular denomination from the US Eagle gold series. However, while modern collectors seek out remaining specimens from this series, Americans of the 19th and early-20th centuries got little use out of the $20 Double Eagle. The largest denomination from its series, the Double Eagle was commonly used in international commerce by businesses and traders. Right now, Pre-33 Gold $20 Liberty Double Eagles are available to purchase online at Silver.com.

Each of the Pre-33 Gold $20 Liberty Double Eagles in this listing comes with a protective plastic flip and is a pre-1900 coin. These coins are in About Uncirculated, or better, condition. Coins in this condition have most or all of the original mint luster present and showcase only light-to-trace wear and tear on the highest elements of the design.
Please note that dates in this listing are limited to 1850 to 1899. We cannot assure you of a certain date mark in advance. We fulfill your order only after your payment clears, so coins will be chosen from available stockpiles at that point in time. Remember, the Gold $20 Liberty Double Eagle is a 90% gold coin that has 10% copper in its metallic alloy for greater durability.
The obverse of Pre-33 Gold $20 Liberty Double Eagles features a left-profile bust of Lady Liberty. Created in the classical Greco-Roman-inspired art of the day, Liberty wears a coronet crown with the word “Liberty” inscribed on it. Her bust is accompanied by a ring of 13 stars, one for each of the original colonies that formed the United States after the American Revolution.
On the reverse of the Pre-33 Gold Liberty Double Eagle is a stunning version of the heraldic eagle inspired by the Great Seal of the United States of America. The design includes a bald eagle in front-facing relief with a small US shield on its chest. The bird clutches the arrows of war and the olive branch of peace in its talons while its outstretched wings are connected from tip to tip by rays of sunshine. A ring of 13 stars is overhead of the eagle, with coins dated 1866 and later boasting the national motto within this ring. Coins issued 1865 and earlier lack the national motto.
