The Privateer Series from Elemetal Mint brings the beauty and brutality of a life lived on the high seas to a set of silver rounds. Many of the releases to date have featured abstract images of pirate ships, rough seas, and dangerous creatures. Now, in the fifth release get a glimpse of life aboard a pirate’s ship.
In the 2 oz Elemetal Silver The Plank Ultra High Relief Round, you can see firsthand what it looked like to suffer the fate of walking the plank. A common tool used to punish either recalcitrant hostages from other ships or mutinous members of the pirate crew, walking the plank was a certain death sentence. Your hands were bound behind your back, sometimes your feet were bound as well, and you were pushed overboard blindfolded and sent to Davey Jones’ locker.
On the obverse of The Plank round is the image of a shirtless mutineer being forced to walk the plank by a captain wielding a flintlock pistol and a sword. The poor fool walking the plank has nothing but his pants, with a blindfold over his eyes and his hands bound behind his back. There are no text engravings on this face.
The reverse of the 2 oz Elemetal Silver The Plank Ultra High Relief Round features the common design theme used on the reverse of all Privateer Series rounds. The wheel featured at the helm of many a ship is depicted with a human skull in the center, while engravings include the pirate motto “No Prey, No Pay” above and the round’s weight, metal content, and purity below.
Elemetal Mint is the result of collaboration between Ohio Precious Metals, NTR Metals, and Provident Metals. Formed in 2014, the mint took physical shape in July 2015 as OPM rebranded its Jackson, Ohio minting facilities as Elemetal Mint.
