These coins have limited mintages and highlight the beauty of the silver Year of the Horse design. Lunar Series II coins feature a new design each year and follow a 12-year release schedule.
On the obverse of each coin is the image of Queen Elizabeth II, which was created in 1998 by Ian Rank-Broadley. Her Majesty’s right-profile effigy appears on all British and commonwealth coinage, and has since she ascended to the throne of England in 1952 following her father’s death.
The reverse of the 2014 ½ oz Proof Colorized Silver Australian Horse Coin includes the unique 2014 Year of the Horse design. There are natural hues and rich tones added to the two horses featured on this face of the coin to help bring them to life. While one horse is a rich, red hue the other has a dark, brown appearance.
Perth Mint is a state-owned facility located in the city of Perth, Western Australia. The mint was originally founded in 1899 as the third and final Royal Mint facility, and remained under British control until long after federation in 1902. The Currency Act of 1965 established the Royal Australian Mint as the new sovereign facility and granted legal tender status to Perth Mint coinage.
