This coin celebrates the Homestead Act, which was signed by President Abraham Lincoln. It permitted Americans to claim a certain amount of land in the American West, with the understanding that the land would be cultivated and improved. The first claim under the Homestead Act was made on land in Nebraska, where the Homestead National Park now stands.
Each of the coins in this product listing is available in near-perfect condition. The PCGS graded these coins MS69 because they still have their full, original luster, and no more than two minor blemishes, contact marks, flaws, or hairlines. The Proof-like finish of the coin identifies a bullion coin with a finish that appears deeply-mirrored and/or clear, even though the product is a bullion version.
On the obverse side of the coin are symbols of the three things necessary for life on the frontier: shelter, water, and food. These are depicted by a small cottage, a water pump, and two wheat stalks encircling the image. The reverse bears the image of President George Washington found on all circulation quarters.
The United States Mint produces the ATB coin series at its Philadelphia and San Francisco Mint facilities. The bullion coins are produced at Philadelphia, but bear no mint mark identifying them as products of that facility.
