Each 2016 1/20 oz Silver Mexican Libertad coin in this product listing is a bullion specimen with a Brilliant Uncirculated condition. The Silver Mexican Libertad bullion coins debuted in 1982 with a 1 oz weight available as the only option. 1991 saw the addition of four fractional-weight coins, including these 1/20 oz Silver Mexican Libertad coins. In 1996, the program expanded again with the addition of a 2 oz and 5 oz option.

Today, the 1/20 oz Silver Mexican Libertad remains among the most popular weights in the entire series. Only the 1 oz, 2 oz, and occasionally the ¼ oz coin have mintage figures and demand in excess of the 1/20 oz weight.

On the reverse of the 2016 1/20 oz Silver Mexican Libertad coin is the image of Mexico’s modern coat of arms. It features a bald eagle fighting to control a snake while perched atop a cactus. There is a wreath below the seal and the phrase “Estados Unidos Mexicanos” above, which translates as United States of Mexico.

All Silver Mexican Libertad coins are produced by the Mexican Mint. Located in Mexico City, it was opened in 1535 by Spanish conquistadors looking to meltdown and export back to the Old World all of the precious metals of Central and South America.
