The Gold Austrian Philharmonic is one of the most unique bullion coins offered on the European continent. For starters, it is the only bullion coin in Europe issued with a face value in Euros. Additionally, it is currently the most popular coin on the continent, with a growing fanbase in Japan and North America. Today, the 2016 1 oz Gold Austrian Philharmonic Coin is available on Silver.com.

Coin Highlights:

  • Produced for a 27th consecutive year in 2016!
  • Arrives in an individual flip, sealed mint tube of 10, or boxes containing 500 coins in total.
  • Consists of one troy ounce of .9999 fine gold.
  • Bears a face value of €100 (Euros) backed by the Austrian government.
  • Design features inspired by the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra.
  • Created by Thomas Pessendorfer.

The Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra is one of, if not the most, important cultural icons for the nation of Austria. Formed during the 1850s, the orchestra has continuously performed in every decade since. Its home at the Musikverein Golden Hall in the Inner Stadt neighborhood of Vienna, the national capital, is a pilgrimage all classic music lovers must make to see.

It was only natural to select this icon as the official inspiration for the nation’s bullion coin program. Gold Austrian Philharmonic coins were introduced as a 1 oz. bullion product in 1989, with a reverse and obverse design courtesy of Thomas Pessendorfer. Today, the program has extended to include four fractional-weight coins in gold, and a 1 oz. Silver Austrian Philharmonic coin (introduced in 2008).

On the reverse face of the Gold Austrian Philharmonic is a collection of musical instruments representative of the orchestra. Included in the design are violins, cellos, a flute, bassoon, and French horn. Engravings on this face are in German, and read “Wiener Philharmoniker.”

The obverse bears the image of the pipe organ found inside the Golden Hall. Engravings on this side are also in German, and read “Republik Osterreich” and “1 Unze Gold 9999.”

Gold Austrian Philharmonic coins are produced by the Austrian Mint. Founded in the 12 century by Duke Leopold V, it is one of Europe’s oldest operating facilities.

We use a live, up-to-the-second spot price feed supplied by Xignite.com, a worldwide leader in the data supply market.

Are your products actually in stock?

Yes. We are one of the few bullion dealers in the industry who only deems products "in stock" when we have them on-hand and ready to ship immediately. In the instance of a presale item, we denote that the product is on presale and the estimated shipping date. While we make the best efforts to hit presale dates, the dates are only estimates, given we cannot control mint production issues and/or carrier dealyes.

Why are multiple prices listed?

We offer a 4% discount to "cash" paying customers - with paper check, bank wire, and bitcoin payments being defined as cash. On many products, we are also able to offer volume discounts to customers purchasing large quantities of the same item. All volume pricing is laid out in the chart on the product's description page, as well as in the cart.

When do I lock in my price?

All prices are locked in at the time of purchase. Credit/debit card, PayPal, BitCoin, Ethereum, and Ripple orders are paid at the time of checkout, while paper check and bank wire orders require a credit/debit card on file to lock in your pricing while we await your payment. Please note, paper check and bank wire orders will NOT result in a charge to your card - we simple maintain the card on file while we await full payment by your selected payment method.

Do you ship internationally?

We currently only ship to addresses in the United States, including APOs.
