Since 2012, sales of Proof Sets have failed to reach the 1 million mark in any of the years. Sales in 2016 reached 595,184 sets, continuing the drop off. The lower sales has led to higher prices on the secondary market for some year’s Proof Sets. Despite the lower sales, there is still interest in the Sets, as they are great ways for people to get started coin collecting or to add to their collections. The 2016 Proof Set has 1 less coin than the 2015 Set, dropping the face value to $5.91 and the original issue price to $31.95. This set was minted at the US Mint in San Francisco and has an S mint mark. Right now, these 2016 US Mint Proof Sets are available for purchase online from Silver.com.

The regular Proof Set contains one each of the Lincoln Cent, Jefferson Nickel, Roosevelt Dime, and Kennedy Half Dollar. Also included is the latest issue of the Native American Dollar series. In 2016, this coin features the reverse design of the Native American Code Talkers of World War I and World War II.
The America the Beautiful Quarters Program set contains quarters featuring 5 different parks. The parks featured in 2016 are Cumberland Gap National Historical Park in West Virginia, Fort Moultrie (Fort Sumter National Monument) in South Dakota, Harpers Ferry National Historical Park in West Virginia, Shawnee National Forest in Illinois, and Theodore Roosevelt National Park in North Dakota.
The Presidential Dollars set contains 3 dollar coins honoring the 37th, 38th, and 40th Presidents of the United States – Richard M. Nixon, Gerald R. Ford, and Ronald Reagan. In order to qualify for the Presidential Dollars program, the former President must have been deceased for at least two years.
The packaging of the 2016 Proof Sets remains similar to the packaging of previous years. The coins are placed in 3 individual plastic cases and put into a cardboard outer box. The front of the outer box has an image of the Washington Monument at sunset.
