The 2013 silver New Zealand $2 Fiji Taku coin pays tribute to the taku, also referred to as the hawksbill turtle. This turtle is native to the warm and pleasant waters surrounding the Fiji territory. The coin features a very intricate design and its details paint a beautiful picture of this glorious animal. The coin’s obverse features the taku turtle swimming near the water’s bottom. Air bubbles are rising from the turtle and headed toward the surface. The taku’s shell features many small details and really highlights the namesake of this silver coin. Near the left rim of the coin is the inscription “FIJI TAKU” while along the bottom edge the coin has the inscription “FINE SILVER .999 1 OZ.”
The coin’s reverse features Fiji’s coat of arms. The coat of arms is highly symbolic of this nation and features a Fijian canoe atop. To the left and right are two individuals holding the shield. The reverse contains numerous inscriptions as well including “FIJI, 2013 and TWO DOLLARS.” At the bottom of the coat of arms, the nation’s motto can be found. Translated, this motto means “Fear God and honor the Queen.”
