Though the design has changed several times over the years and there have also been many special release coins, the Maple Leaf Silver Bullion coin has been produced on a yearly basis since 1988; two years after the release of the US Mint’s Silver Eagle coin. It is widely considered to be one of the most popular investment grade silver coins available today, second only to the Silver American Eagle.
The brand new 2014 coin has seen a few design changes from that of last years edition, making these coins even more unique. The changes include new radial lines as well as a Maple Leaf Privy Mark to help prevent counterfeiting. The radial lines give the coin a darker appearance as that of years past and been created in fine detail.
Located on the coins obverse is a depiction of Queen Elizabeth II right facing and adorned with a necklace and earring. By looking at the image you will notice the fine attention to detail that the RCM has used in minting the coin. Spelled out above the Queen is here name; “Elizabeth II.” Located below her are the coins face value ($5 CAD) accompanied by the year that the coin was minted.
The reverse of each coin’s center bears a finely crafted image of the Maple Leaf. So much attention has been paid to the design that you can clearly make out each of the leaf’s veins. Above the image is the name of the country “Canada.” To either side of the coin the purity is marked with “9999.” Finally circling in a half moon pattern along the bottom of the reverse is the phrase “Fine Silver 1 oz Argent Pur.”
