Outside of the American Eagle coins, the most popular product currently available from the United States Mint is the America the Beautiful coin series. Struck with five new designs each year, these coins represent all the nation’s states, territories, and the federal district. The 2014 5 oz Silver ATB Shenandoah Coin is currently available on Silver.com in near-perfect condition.

Coin Highlights:

  • Second release of 2014, and 22nd overall in the America the Beautiful Series.
  • Ships to you in a plastic slab to protect the coin’s condition.
  • Consists of five troy ounces of .999 fine silver.
  • Face value of $.25 (USD) is fully backed by the US government.
  • Earned a grade of Mint State 69 from the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation.
  • Bears a deeply-mirrored, proof-like finish.
  • Represents Virginia in the ATB Series.
  • Commemorates Shenandoah National Park.

Shenandoah National Park in Virginia is home to some of the most stunning vistas on the eastern seaboard of the United States. The park runs along the edge of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Virginia, ending along the border of the Great Smoky Mountains in the Appalachians, just at the border of North Carolina.

Each coin available to you today has a near-perfect grade of MS69 from the NGC. These coins exhibit full, original mint luster, but also have a maximum of two minor detracting flaws. DPL is a designation for bullion coins with deeply-mirrored, proof-like finishes.

America the Beautiful debuted in 2010, and is scheduled to run through 2021. The program will eventually consist of 56 coins in total, representing a park, forest, or monument from each of the nation’s 50 states, five overseas territories, and the federal district in Washington DC.

On the reverse you’ll find the image of a hiker looking out over the Shenandoah River Valley, and includes the engravings of the state of issue, park name, and year of issue.

The obverse bears the familiar left-profile portrait of President George Washington, the nation’s first leader. It is common on the US quarter, and was refined in 1932 by John Flanagan.
