To date there have been two releases in the Silver Canadian Landscapes Series. This 2016 1 oz Silver Canadian Landscapes Lake Coin follows the release of The Rockies coin, which also had a unique, colorized finish. In total, there will be four coins released in the Landscapes Series, with each coin celebrating a unique natural vista available only in Canada.
The 2016 1 oz Silver Canadian Landscapes Lake coin commemorates Lake Magog, located at the foot of Mount Assiniboine in British Columbia. The coin’s design includes brilliant colors that bring the natural beauty of the lake and surrounding mountains to life.
The reverse face of the coin bears the image of a mirror-like, still Lake Magog as it sits in the shadows of Mount Assiniboine. Colorization added to Gauvin’s design show the first light of day as it crest the mountain and strikes the still waters of the lake.
On the obverse of the coin is Susanna Blunt’s 2003 depiction of Queen Elizabeth II in right-profile relief. A stalwart on Canadian coinage, the Queen’s effigy is featured on this coin along with engravings that include her name, the phrase “D.G. Regina,” and the face value of the coin.
The Royal Canadian Mint operated for almost 80 years from its headquarters in Ottawa, the federal capital of Canada. In the 1980s, the mint expanded to include a new facility in Winnipeg.
