After a successful run in 2016, the Hobo Nickel collection is back with all-new options for investors and collectors buying silver. The five designs of the original release were immensely popular, and none more so than those with an antique finish. For 2017, HotCo and Osborne Mint introduce five new designs with only antique finish available to answer the demand of collectors. Right now, the 5 oz Antique Silver The Trains Round is available to purchase online at Silver.com.

Round Highlights:

  • Ships to you sealed in protective plastic with a Certificate of Authenticity.
  • Third design release for 2017 and Eighth in total in the Hobo Nickel Collection.
  • Mintage limited to 2,500 rounds only!
  • Consists of Five Troy ounces of .999 fine silver in antique finish.
  • Obverse depicts two trains on parallel tracks with a many running from one.
  • Reverse features a Hobo Nickel design in the center with two trains on either side.

All 2017 Hobo Nickel Silver Rounds are a collaborative effort between Heads or Tales Coin Company and the Osborne Mint. Each round released in the 2017 series has an antique finish applied that provides added depth to the intricate designs and an old-fashioned patina that provides visual brilliance.

While the designs of the 2016 Hobo Nickel Series focused closely on interpretations of the original Buffalo Nickel from James Earle Fraser, a favorite target circulation coin for hobo artists in the 19th and 20th centuries, the 2017 releases go in a different direction. Many of the designs retain elements from the original series, but offer their own flair.

Steve Adams is the third artist to feature a design in the 2017 release after the Durer’s Knight depiction from Roman Boteen and the Fisherman & Graveyard Shift from Chris DeFlorentis. Adams features the preferred method of hobo travel in his depiction with a post-modern image of steam locomotives.

The obverse of all 5 oz Antique Silver The Trains Rounds includes the image of two trains on parallel tracks, with the locomotive on the tracks in the foreground bearing down on a man who is running along trying to get away from the oncoming locomotive.

On the reverse of The Trains Round you’ll find two trains meeting in the center, with their headlamps focused directly on a small Hobo Nickel obverse design in the center of the field. It captures the right-profile relief of a bearded man in a bowler hat similar to the original setting of a Buffalo Nickel.

Are your products actually in stock?

Yes. We are one of the few bullion dealers in the industry who only deems products "in stock" when we have them on-hand and ready to ship immediately. In the instance of a presale item, we denote that the product is on presale and the estimated shipping date. While we make the best efforts to hit presale dates, the dates are only estimates, given we cannot control mint production issues and/or carrier dealyes.

Why are multiple prices listed?

We offer a 4% discount to "cash" paying customers - with paper check, bank wire, and bitcoin payments being defined as cash. On many products, we are also able to offer volume discounts to customers purchasing large quantities of the same item. All volume pricing is laid out in the chart on the product's description page, as well as in the cart.

When do I lock in my price?

All prices are locked in at the time of purchase. Credit/debit card, PayPal, BitCoin, Ethereum, and Ripple orders are paid at the time of checkout, while paper check and bank wire orders require a credit/debit card on file to lock in your pricing while we await your payment. Please note, paper check and bank wire orders will NOT result in a charge to your card - we simple maintain the card on file while we await full payment by your selected payment method.

Do you ship internationally?

We currently only ship to addresses in the United States, including APOs.
