The Gold Chinese Panda Series was introduced by the Chinese Mint in 1982. Initially, the collection offered gold coins in weights based in Troy ounces. These included 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz gold, with a 1/20 oz gold coin added in 1983. In 2016, these coins were all changed to weights based in Grams, ending the use of Troy ounces in this series. The 1/20 oz gold coin, for example, became the 1 Gram gold coin.
Prior to this, another change had occurred in the series. From 1982 to 2000, the coins had the original face values assigned by the Chinese Mint. For the 1/20 oz gold coin, this included a value of just 5 Yuan. All of the coins were given a higher face value in 2001, with the 1/20 oz gold coin adjusted upward from 5 Yuan to 20 Yuan.
The obverse of the 1/20 oz Gold Panda features the image of the Hall of Prayer for Abundant Harvests. Used on all coins in the series since 1982, the Hall of Prayer for Abundant Harvests is the largest building in the Temple of Heaven Complex and was completed in 1420.
On the reverse side of 1/20 oz Gold Chinese Pandas is a depiction of the Giant Panda. Each year, the Chinese Mint offers a new design on the reverse of the Gold Panda Coins, resulting in varying designs across the coins in this listing.
These 1/20 oz Gold Chinese Pandas are available to purchase online in near-perfect condition. Mint State 69 coins showcase full, original mint luster and have no detracting flaws of any kind. Examples of acceptable flaws at this grade level include only minuscule contact marks or hairlines located outside of the primary focal points of the coin.
