Silver Libertads originally featured the same 1921 design from the gold Centenario on the obverse side. This design was used from 1991 to 1995 on the 1/20 oz Silver Libertads, and a new modern image was introduced in 1996. The 1/20 oz Silver Mexican Libertad debuted in 1991 and was struck until 2011, resuming production in 2013.
The obverse side of 1/20 oz Silver Mexican Libertads features a depiction of Winged Victory. Also known as the Angel of Independence, she is shown here on the top of the Mexican Independence Victory Column just as she appears in Mexico City. The statue was commissioned in 1910 and the column was built in 1921, at which point the statue was placed atop the column.
On the reverse field of 1/20 oz Silver Libertads is an image of the national coat of arms. The 1/20 oz Silver Mexican Libertads have a depiction of the Mexican golden eagle on a cactus perch as it battles with a serpent that it clutches in its talons and beak. The image includes a cactus wreath below and the nation of issue inscribed above.
