The Mexican Mint’s Silver Libertad bullion coin series expanded three times in total during its history, with two of those expansions coming before the 1 kilo coin’s introduction. The first expansion was the introduction of four fractional-weight coins in 1991 that included 1/2, 1/4, 1/10, and 1/20 oz options. The second expansion came in 1996 with the addition of 2 oz and 5 oz coins.
On the obverse of 1 Kilo Silver Libertad Coins is the image of Winged Victory. A symbol of Mexican resistance to Spanish colonial rule and eventual victory against Spain to gain independence, Winged Victory appears on both the silver and gold versions in the Libertad collection and is accompanied by background designs of twin volcanic peaks of Popocatepetl and Iztaccihuatl.
