The Book of Job in the Hebrew Bible was written in the 2nd millennium BCE, and it detailed many of the events of the patriarchal Job in the land of Uz. Near the end of this book, two massive beasts are described. Leviathan was one of those two, a sea-dwelling female serpent whose exact form remains a mystery to this day. Leviathan is a female sea-serpent mentioned in many passages of the Hebrew Bible alongside a male, land-dwelling beast known as behemoth. Various attempts to describe this animal and prescribe it to a real-world creature have consisted of animals both mythical and realistic in nature. For example, some believed the leviathan to be a crocodile in actuality.

The leviathan as featured in the 1 oz Silver Antique Leviathan Finding Silverbug Island Round takes the form of a sea serpent, even though accounts from the Hebrew Bible do not necessarily capture the animal as such. This particular round is one of three available in the Silver Leviathan release, which also includes a silver proof and BU option.

Each 1 oz Silver Antique Leviathan Round has an antique polish applied to the blank, which helps to highlight the intricate details of the silver round’s design elements. At the same time, antique polishes create a sense of ancient coinage on the surface areas of any silver product to which the polish is applied.

On the obverse of all Silver Antique Leviathan Rounds is the image of a serpent-like depiction of leviathan. Some of the accounts from the Hebrew Bible describe the massive beast as having a large number of teeth and a back with scales as tough as rows of shields. In this design though, you see a long serpent in the sea as it harasses a single mariner in a rowboat with help in the form of a tall ship too far off in the distance to render aid.

The reverse of all Silver Finding Silverbug Island Rounds includes the image of the namesake island. The island itself emerges from the waters of the sea as a collection of silver rounds piled one on top of the other.
