Silver rounds are increasingly popular right now because of the variety of designs and purity of the metal used in striking. Each new year brings a group of exciting new releases, and none is more interesting than the new Hobo Nickel Round series. These silver rounds bring iconic coin designs to investors and collectors, with a unique twist. Today the 1 oz Silver Antique Hobo Nickel Round is available for purchase on Silver.com.

Round Highlights:

  • Mintage limited to just 1,000 rounds in total!
  • First release of Hobo Nickels!
  • Ships in a sealed capsule to protect the round’s condition and design.
  • Consists of one troy ounce of .999 fine silver.
  • Created by Paolo Curcio.
  • Mimics the Buffalo Nickel design from James Earle Fraser.
  • Features an antique finish and serial number edged onto the rim.

James Earle Fraser’s Buffalo Nickel debuted from the United States Mint in 1913, and was in circulation through 1938. It featured a Native American leader’s profile portrait on the obverse, and a bison on the reverse inspired by Black Diamond, a resident of the Central Park Zoo in New York City.

Spanish engraver Paolo Curcio designed these hobo-inspired images especially for the Hobo Nickel Series. Hobo artists in the 18th and 19th centuries used to use circulation nickels as mediums for their artwork, adding their own flare to circulating nickels. Curcio replicates Fraser’s Buffalo Nickel design, with special touches.

On the obverse is the image of a longshoreman. His fisherman wears a wool cap and has a cigarette in his mouth, but eerily reflects the facial features and shapes of Fraser’s Native American portrait.

The reverse uses a buffalo’s back as the shape for a mountain range on the far shore of a lake. On the near shore you’ll notice a lone fisherman sitting on the dock, his line cast in the water in hopes of catching his next meal.

Each of the 1 oz Silver Antique Hobo Nickel Rounds in this listing has an antique finish. Visual features that once took years of handling and abuse in circulation to achieve can now be struck onto coins using modern technology. An antique finish gives warm, subtle accents to existing designs.

We use a live, up-to-the-second spot price feed supplied by Xignite.com, a worldwide leader in the data supply market.

Are your products actually in stock?

Yes. We are one of the few bullion dealers in the industry who only deems products "in stock" when we have them on-hand and ready to ship immediately. In the instance of a presale item, we denote that the product is on presale and the estimated shipping date. While we make the best efforts to hit presale dates, the dates are only estimates, given we cannot control mint production issues and/or carrier dealyes.

Why are multiple prices listed?

We offer a 4% discount to "cash" paying customers - with paper check, bank wire, and bitcoin payments being defined as cash. On many products, we are also able to offer volume discounts to customers purchasing large quantities of the same item. All volume pricing is laid out in the chart on the product's description page, as well as in the cart.

When do I lock in my price?

All prices are locked in at the time of purchase. Credit/debit card, PayPal, BitCoin, Ethereum, and Ripple orders are paid at the time of checkout, while paper check and bank wire orders require a credit/debit card on file to lock in your pricing while we await your payment. Please note, paper check and bank wire orders will NOT result in a charge to your card - we simple maintain the card on file while we await full payment by your selected payment method.

Do you ship internationally?

We currently only ship to addresses in the United States, including APOs.
