Burnished Gold Eagles were introduced by the United States Mint in 2006, but the production of the coins has been inconsistent since that time. Though the coins have been available annually as of 2011, the early years were split between regular production and a suspension in coining. In 2009 and 2010, no Burnished Gold Eagles were struck as the US Mint first diverted gold blanks to the BU series and then reintroduced the Proof Gold Eagle in 2010, leaving the Burnished Gold Eagle on the sideline for the second year in a row.
All of the 1 oz Burnished Gold American Eagles available here come with a display box and an included Certificate of Authenticity from the United States Mint. The coins available here have the potential for date marks from 2006 to 2008 or 2011 to present. Please keep in mind that we do not guarantee a specific date nor the reverse design of the coin you receive. It is possible to get matching dates and designs when buying multiples.
On the obverse of Burnished Gold Eagles is a depiction of Lady Liberty. In this design from Augustus Saint-Gaudens, Liberty is set in front-facing relief with her full-length figure shown walking toward the viewer. As she does so, she lifts up a torch in her right hand and carries an olive branch in her left hand.
The reverse side of the 1 oz Burnished Gold Eagle comes with one of two possible designs. Most of the coins in the series, to date, offer the original image of a family of bald eagles from Miley Busiek. This design was used from 2006 to mid-2021 in the Burnished Gold Eagle Series. The new portrait of a single bald eagle from Jennie Norris is available on all coins issued after mid-2021.
