The Gold Australian Nugget coin was the first major gold bullion coin offered by the Perth Mint. Introduced in 1986 and struck from 1987 to 1989, the Gold Nugget coin was the foundation for a program that would evolve into the Gold Australian Kangaroo coin series by 1990. Now, 1 oz Gold Australian Nugget Coins are available to you for purchase online at Silver.com from random years of issue.

Gold Nugget bullion coins from the Perth Mint were issued in four different weights from 1987 to 1989. Each year, the coins were available in 1 oz gold, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz. The individual weights each had a different depiction of a gold nugget. During each of these three years, the 1 oz Gold Australian Nugget used a design of the Welcome Stranger nugget discovered in 1869 as created for the Perth Mint by Stuart Devlin.

The other coins in the collection featured images of the Hand of Faith nugget found in 1980 (1/2 oz coin), the Golden Eagle nugget found in 1931 (1/4 oz coin), and the Little Hero nugget found in 1890 (1/10 oz coin). This Silver.com only offers the 1 oz Gold Australian Nugget with its Welcome Stranger design.

On the reverse of 1 oz Gold Nugget Coins, you’ll find a depiction of the largest known alluvial gold nugget ever discovered. The Welcome Stranger nugget was found in 1869 and had an astonishing value equivalent to somewhere between $3 and $4 million (AUD) in today’s money.

The obverse of 1 oz Gold Australian Nuggets featured the right-profile portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. This series only featured the third-generation Royal Mint of England design from Raphael Maklouf. It is often considered one of the most idealized visions of Queen Elizabeth II and is also known as one of the more regal depictions of Her Majesty.

These 1 oz Gold Australian Nuggets are available to you with a protective plastic capsule. The coins are offered from random years and chosen at random by our warehouse team when your payment has been processed. We cannot guarantee a particular date mark for you, nor can we select various different date marks if you buy more than one coin.
