Each 1 oz Platinum Australian Koala in this product listing comes with an individual plastic capsule. The Perth Mint introduced the Platinum Koala in 1988 following legislation that authorized the issuance of platinum and silver coins. The coins in this listing come from random years of issue.
JM Bullion selects your coin at random once your payment has been processed. We cannot guarantee the date marks and designs that will be available at this point in time. If you buy more than one of the Platinum Koalas in this listing, please keep in mind it is possible to receive coins that have the same dates and designs present.
On the obverse face of 1 oz Platinum Australian Koalas is a bust of Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majesty’s portrait is regularly updated for Commonwealth coinage, and as such it is possible for several different effigies to feature on this side. From 1988 when the coins debuted until 1998, the Raphael Maklouf bust of the Queen was featured on many British and Australian coins. The most common design is the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of the Queen used on Australian coins from 1999 to 2018. The most recent bust of the Queen captures her at the age of 89 and was created by Jody Clark.
The reverse side of the 1 oz Platinum Australian Koala includes an image of the cuddly marsupial. Often mislabeled as the koala bear, the koala is actually one of Australia’s many endemic marsupial species. The image of the koala changes with each date mark, adding variety to the series.
