Each 1 oz Silver Athos Round in this listing comes to you with an individual plastic capsule. Multiples of these rounds are offered in protective tubes of 20 rounds or boxes of 500 rounds. These rounds offer designs that look at the 19th century characters from Alexandre Dumas’ novels from a different perspective. This time around, each of the Three Musketeers is cast as a powerful female figure.
For the figure of Athos, Alexandre Dumas drew inspiration, however loosely, from a real musketeer in the service of the French king during the 17th century. In this case, Armand d’Athos was the inspiration for the character that Dumas would simply refer to as Athos. Armand was born in Bearn, France, around the year 1615. A real-life member of the Maison du Roi, Athos was killed in a dual on December 21, 1643.
The obverse design of Silver Athos Rounds in the Three Musketeers Series features a depiction of Athos, the third and final musketeer to feature in this series of rounds. Here, Athos is shown standing next to a bar-height chair with a fireplace boasting a roaring fire in the background. The silhouettes of the other two musketeers feature in the distant background field.
On the reverse side of 1 oz Silver Athos Rounds, the mint offers a common design element used throughout the series. Here, the silhouettes of all three members of the Three Musketeers feature in the center of the design element. This design includes buildings representing the Parisian skyline surrounding the figures at the center and a crest overhead.
