The Perth Mint introduced the Silver Australian Kookaburra in 1990. The coin series introduced two major concepts to the production of Australian bullion coinage that continues to this day. First and foremost, the Silver Kookaburra introduced the idea of using native wildlife species as the inspiration for coin designs. Second, the Silver Kookaburra also brought the concept of using new designs with each date mark to life.

All 1 oz Silver Australian Kookaburras offered in this Silver.com listing have Mint State 70 certifications from the PCGS or NGC. Coins in MS70 condition have full, original mint luster and no detracting flaws of any kind on the design elements or background fields. These coins may also feature additional labels such as First Strike or Early Release, but that is not guaranteed.

Silver.com guarantees you a perfect condition 1 oz Silver Australian Kookaburra. We select your coins at random once your payment has been processed and will pick your coin from our available stock at that moment. Please note that the date and designs on the coin you receive will vary and if you buy more than one all your coins could match.

Queen Elizabeth II is featured on the obverse of 1 oz Silver Kookaburras. The effigy of the Queen has changed three times during the production history of the coin series. When it debuted in 1990, the Raphael Maklouf fourth-generation design was in use. In 1999, it was replaced by the fifth-generation portrait from Ian Rank-Broadley. In 2019, that design was replaced by Jody Clark’s sixth-generation bust of the Queen.

Kookaburras are shown on the reverse face of 1 oz Silver Australian Kookaburras. The image of the largest member of the kingfisher species changes with each year, adding collectability to this silver bullion series.
