The Onza is one of the more unique coins in the Mexican Mint’s long and varied history. First struck in 1949 and then again in 1978, 1979, and 1980, these coins are in some ways an homage to the mint itself. The standout image on these coins is the obverse coin press known as de balancín. This was the very first press used to mint coins in Mexico. Today, 1 oz Silver Mexican Silver Onza Balance Scale Coins are available to you online at Silver.com.

Coin Highlights:

  • Coins ship to you in protective flips!
  • Available in various dates!
  • Arrives in AU+ condition!
  • Consists of 625 grams of .925 silver.
  • The obverse shows a historic coin press.
  • On the reverse side is a balancing scale.

Each of these 1 oz Silver Mexican Onza Balance Scale Coins was struck at the Mexican Mint and will arrive to you in AU+ condition. As such, signs of wear could be present on the higher points of the relief, while at least half of the original mint luster will be present. Each of these coins consists of .925 silver, which is also referred to as sterling silver. The coins will arrive in plastic flips with a date range of 1978-1980.

The Mexican Mint is considered the oldest minting institution in the Americas. Following a decree from the Spanish Crown, the mint was established in 1535 by Antonio de Mendoza, the first Viceroy of New Spain. The mint famously sat on top of Moctezuma’s Casa Denegrida, which was once an Aztec meditation house. That site is now a museum and the mint is currently located in San Luis Potosi in Central Mexico.

On the obverse side of 1 oz Silver Silver Onza Balance Scale Coins there is the image of a historic coin press. This type of press is known as de balancin and preceded steam and electric-powered minting devices. Along the edge of the field, there are inscriptions reading Casa de Moneda de Mexico. You will also find the year of release on the obverse field.

The reverse of 1 oz Silver Mexican Silver Onzas features a balance scale. Because of the historic theme of these coins, the scale is the vintage type with two bowls suspended at equal distances from a fulcrum. This might have been used at the mint to weigh and balance silver before it was struck. Inscriptions on the reverse read Una Onza Troy de Plata Pura Ley .925 Peso 33.625 Gramos. The Mexican mintmark can also be found on the reverse field.

We use a live, up-to-the-second spot price feed supplied by Xignite.com, a worldwide leader in the data supply market.

Are your products actually in stock?

Yes. We are one of the few bullion dealers in the industry who only deems products "in stock" when we have them on-hand and ready to ship immediately. In the instance of a presale item, we denote that the product is on presale and the estimated shipping date. While we make the best efforts to hit presale dates, the dates are only estimates, given we cannot control mint production issues and/or carrier dealyes.

Why are multiple prices listed?

We offer a 4% discount to "cash" paying customers - with paper check, bank wire, and bitcoin payments being defined as cash. On many products, we are also able to offer volume discounts to customers purchasing large quantities of the same item. All volume pricing is laid out in the chart on the product's description page, as well as in the cart.

When do I lock in my price?

All prices are locked in at the time of purchase. Credit/debit card, PayPal, BitCoin, Ethereum, and Ripple orders are paid at the time of checkout, while paper check and bank wire orders require a credit/debit card on file to lock in your pricing while we await your payment. Please note, paper check and bank wire orders will NOT result in a charge to your card - we simple maintain the card on file while we await full payment by your selected payment method.

Do you ship internationally?

We currently only ship to addresses in the United States, including APOs.
