The US Eagle Series was the nation’s first form of fiat currency using gold as the precious metal content. Introduced in 1794, the three denominations of this gold currency eventually expanded to a fourth following the California Gold Rush in 1848. That final denomination added as the $20 Gold Double Eagle. Today, 1904 $20 Gold Liberty Double Eagles are available to you online at Silver.com in certified condition.

Unlike the other denominations in the US Eagle Series, the late introduction of the Double Eagle resulted in just two designs featuring on the coins between 1849 and 1933. The Liberty Eagle effigy was the longest-running design and saw its last issue 1907. James B. Longacre, the 4th Chief Engraver of the United States Mint, developed these designs.

Gold Liberty Double Eagles were produced for circulation between 1850 and 1907, with the 1849 coins struck only as proofs. The 1904 date was one of the last used in circulation, though by the 20th century most Americans did not use these gold coins. The vast majority of the more than 6.2 million coins struck by the US Mint were used in international trade.

Many 1904 $20 Gold Liberty Double Eagles were used in commerce with England and France, never returning back to the United States as a result. The remainder were melted down in the 1930s. Just 5% of the original mintage is believed to survive today in Mint State condition.

All of these 1904 $20 Gold Liberty Double Eagles are in Mint State 63 condition. The coins have impaired mint luster, numerous small contact marks, scattered heavy marks, and small hairlines visible.

On the obverse of $20 Gold Liberty Double Eagles, you will find the left-profile effigy of Liberty wearing the coronet crown. The reverse of the 1904 Gold Liberty Double Eagle features the heraldic eagle in front-facing relief.

Where does your spot price come from?

We use a live, up-to-the-second spot price feed supplied by Xignite.com, a worldwide leader in the data supply market.

Are your products actually in stock?

Yes. We are one of the few bullion dealers in the industry who only deems products "in stock" when we have them on-hand and ready to ship immediately. In the instance of a presale item, we denote that the product is on presale and the estimated shipping date. While we make the best efforts to hit presale dates, the dates are only estimates, given we cannot control mint production issues and/or carrier dealyes.

Why are multiple prices listed?

We offer a 4% discount to "cash" paying customers - with paper check, bank wire, and bitcoin payments being defined as cash. On many products, we are also able to offer volume discounts to customers purchasing large quantities of the same item. All volume pricing is laid out in the chart on the product's description page, as well as in the cart.

When do I lock in my price?

All prices are locked in at the time of purchase. Credit/debit card, PayPal, BitCoin, Ethereum, and Ripple orders are paid at the time of checkout, while paper check and bank wire orders require a credit/debit card on file to lock in your pricing while we await your payment. Please note, paper check and bank wire orders will NOT result in a charge to your card - we simple maintain the card on file while we await full payment by your selected payment method.

Do you ship internationally?

We currently only ship to addresses in the United States, including APOs.
