In 1993, the Bank of Mexico issued an entirely new currency to replace the outdated Mexican peso system. One new peso is worth 1,000 of the old pesos. The 1993 1 oz Silver Mexican Brasero Efigie 5 Peso Coin is a mint-state, noncirculating collector’s edition of one of the newer coins.

  • Plastic slab protects the coin for shipping!
  • Coin was minted in 1993!
  • Very limited mintage of 2,000!
  • Consists of one Troy oz of .999 fine silver.
  • Coin has a face value of N$5 backed by the government of Mexico.
  • MS70 grade from PCGS.
  • Mexico’s national coat of arms appears on the obverse.
  • An effigy of Tlaloc, the Aztec god of rain, appears on the reverse.

The obverse of this gorgeous, flawless coin includes the national coat of arms of Mexico. This design includes artistic renderings of a golden eagle eating a rattlesnake while perched on a small cactus. The coat of arms is symbolic of an Aztec legend that said the people would know where they should build their city when they saw an eagle eating a snake over a lake. The coat of arms is surrounded by a D-shaped border constructed by mini versions of the Aztec character for hand.

On the reverse of the 1993 Silver Mexican Brasero Efigie 5 Peso Coin, you’ll find a Brasero Efigie, which is a totem-like rendering of the Aztec god Tlaloc, also called Tlaloc Nahuatl. That means he who makes things sprout. He is the Aztec god of rain. Tlaloc is often depicted with tears on his cheeks, as in the rendering on the coin, because it was believed that the tears regenerated and fertilized the ground to promote crop production. The image on the reverse side is also surrounded by the same style D-shaped border as the image on the obverse.

Your coin will ship in a protective plastic slab with appropriate PCGS labels. The coin is graded as MS70, so you’re receiving a Mint State coin that was noncirculating and is in flawless condition. You can keep the coin in the plastic slab to ensure continued flawless condition while you store or display it.

Only 2,000 of these coins were minted, creating an especially limited supply, so get yours while you can at Silver.com. Order online or reach out via the chat box or by calling 1-888-989-7223 during business hours if you need any assistance. You can also drop us an email anytime.
