Widely cited as one of the most beautiful historical American coins, the $20 gold piece called the Double Eagle was designed by the famous sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens. It remained immensely popular decades after it was last issued in 1933, eventually prompting Congress to set up the U.S. Mint’s American Eagle Coin Program as an annual tribute to Saint-Gaudens’ legacy. The Gold Eagles, which was struck at the West Point Mint starting in 1994, features elements of the original coin’s design alongside the visions of modern medallic artists of distinction. The team at Silver.com is delighted to offer the 1997-W 1/2 oz Gold Proof American Eagle Coin.

A luminary of the American Renaissance in the arts, Augustus Saint-Gaudens was responsible for a large number of large-scale monuments and memorials, many of which still stand today. His work in the Neoclassical style of the Beaux Arts school also produced famous works of public art like the “Diana of the Tower,” which was a long-time feature of the skyline of New York. He tried his hand at numismatics by Presidential request and produced two iconic coin designs, one of which was the celebrated Double Eagle.

This coin features a classic image of Lady Liberty on its obverse side, depicted as originally designed by Saint-Gaudens with flowing locks, an olive branch in her left hand, and a torch in her right. She’s accompanied by the inscriptions “LIBERTY” and “1996.”

The reverse side shows a male eagle flying back to his nest grasping an olive branch, along with the nest below containing a female eagle protecting their hatchlings. This is accompanied by the inscriptions “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and “25 DOLLARS,” along with a “W” mint mark.

We use a live, up-to-the-second spot price feed supplied by Xignite.com, a worldwide leader in the data supply market.

Are your products actually in stock?

Yes. We are one of the few bullion dealers in the industry who only deems products "in stock" when we have them on-hand and ready to ship immediately. In the instance of a presale item, we denote that the product is on presale and the estimated shipping date. While we make the best efforts to hit presale dates, the dates are only estimates, given we cannot control mint production issues and/or carrier dealyes.

Why are multiple prices listed?

We offer a 4% discount to "cash" paying customers - with paper check, bank wire, and bitcoin payments being defined as cash. On many products, we are also able to offer volume discounts to customers purchasing large quantities of the same item. All volume pricing is laid out in the chart on the product's description page, as well as in the cart.

When do I lock in my price?

All prices are locked in at the time of purchase. Credit/debit card, PayPal, BitCoin, Ethereum, and Ripple orders are paid at the time of checkout, while paper check and bank wire orders require a credit/debit card on file to lock in your pricing while we await your payment. Please note, paper check and bank wire orders will NOT result in a charge to your card - we simple maintain the card on file while we await full payment by your selected payment method.

Do you ship internationally?

We currently only ship to addresses in the United States, including APOs.
