All of the coins in the Proof Gold American Eagle Series were trending downward through the mid-1990s. Following the 10th anniversary in 1995, demand for the coins waned through 1999 when mintage figures would rise again. The only coin to escape the doldrums of 1998 was the 1/10 oz coin, which saw its mintage figure actually rise by nearly 4,500 coins from 1997.

The American Eagle Series of coins from the United States Mint all feature images of Liberty on the obverse and American bald eagles on the reverse. Liberty is a symbol of America’s promise of freedom and opportunity, while the bald eagle is the nation’s official symbol and represents power, longevity, and majesty.

On the obverse of the 1998 1/10 oz Proof Gold American Eagle Coin is the image of Lady Liberty. Designed in 1907 by Augustus Saint-Gaudens, this image first appeared on the $20 Gold Double Eagle through 1933.

The reverse face of all 1998 Proof Gold American Eagle Coins bears a design of American bald eagles from Miley Busiek. This imagery was created in 1986 and is exclusively found on the Gold American Eagle coinage from the United States Mint.

These 1998 1/10 oz Proof Gold Eagles have PF70 certifications from the NGC. Coins in this condition showcase full, original mint luster with no detracting flaws. The UCAM designation is reserved for coins with strong, frosted matte design sets and deeply-mirrored, clear background fields.
