On the obverse of 2003 Proof Gold American Eagles is the design of Lady Liberty from 1907. Created by Augustus Saint-Gaudens in a new age of American coin design, this depiction of Liberty featured on the $20 Gold Double Eagle coin from 1907 to 1933.
The reverse face of the 2003 1/10 oz Proof Gold American Eagles bears the design of a family of bald eagles. The coins have a design from Miley Busiek that includes a male eagle in flight over the family nest where a female guards over the hatchling.
