The Gold Buffalo bullion coin was introduced in 2006 as the United States Mint celebrated the 20th anniversary of the American Eagle Series of gold and silver coins. While those coins gained a burnished option for investors, the Gold Buffalo debuted with 1 oz BU and Proof coins and a design inspired by the historic Buffalo Nickel.

James Earle Fraser designed the images for the Buffalo Nickel coin back in 1913 and his imagery was approved for the nickel by the Taft Administration that same year. Fraser’s images of a stoic indigenous figure on the obverse and an American bison on the reverse were used to replace the Liberty Head nickel that had been in use for 30 years.

The obverse of the 2008-W 1/2 oz Burnished Gold American Buffalo coin features a right-profile bust of a Native American. Fraser created this portrait of a stoic figure using the facial features of three real-life tribal leaders of his era to develop the design.

On the reverse side of 2008-W 1/2 oz Burnished Gold Buffalos is an image of Black Diamond, a resident bison of the Central Park Zoo in New York City. The American bison is the largest living land mammal in North America and is shown in this design in left-profile relief as it stands on a mound of dirt.

Your 2008-W 1/2 oz Burnished Gold American Buffalo comes with a perfect Mint State 70 certification from either the PCGS or NGC. These coins showcase full, original mint luster and no detracting flaws of any kind. Silver.com selects your coin at random once your payment has been processed. We cannot guarantee whether the PCGS or NGC graded the specific coin you receive, nor can we guarantee if the coin will have additional labels. Please remember you could get coins with matching labels if you purchase more than one.

Where does your spot price come from?

We use a live, up-to-the-second spot price feed supplied by Xignite.com, a worldwide leader in the data supply market.

Are your products actually in stock?

Yes. We are one of the few bullion dealers in the industry who only deems products "in stock" when we have them on-hand and ready to ship immediately. In the instance of a presale item, we denote that the product is on presale and the estimated shipping date. While we make the best efforts to hit presale dates, the dates are only estimates, given we cannot control mint production issues and/or carrier dealyes.

Why are multiple prices listed?

We offer a 4% discount to "cash" paying customers - with paper check, bank wire, and bitcoin payments being defined as cash. On many products, we are also able to offer volume discounts to customers purchasing large quantities of the same item. All volume pricing is laid out in the chart on the product's description page, as well as in the cart.

When do I lock in my price?

All prices are locked in at the time of purchase. Credit/debit card, PayPal, BitCoin, Ethereum, and Ripple orders are paid at the time of checkout, while paper check and bank wire orders require a credit/debit card on file to lock in your pricing while we await your payment. Please note, paper check and bank wire orders will NOT result in a charge to your card - we simple maintain the card on file while we await full payment by your selected payment method.

Do you ship internationally?

We currently only ship to addresses in the United States, including APOs.
