The official gold bullion coin of Canada is the Gold Canadian Maple Leaf. It was introduced in 1979 by the Royal Canadian Mint, and is considered to be one of the oldest gold coins on the gold bullion market today. It is one of the best-selling gold coins available today and is held in high standing due to its purity and quality. The 2011 1 oz Gold Canadian Maple Leaf Coin is currently available for purchase online at Silver.com.

  • Consists of 1 Troy ounce of .9999 pure gold.
  • Obverse features a profile of Queen Elizabeth II.

  • Face value of $50 (CAD) backed by the Canadian government.

The Royal Canadian Mint first minted the Gold Canadian Maple Leaf coin in 1979, and has issued it every year since then. The initial Gold Maple Leaf coins had a gold purity of 99.9%. The gold purity of the Gold Maple Leaf coins was increased by the RCM in 1983 to 99.99%. This made them the first bullion coin to be of such high gold purity. And to ensure they could not be outdone, the RCM increased the gold purity to 99.999% in 2007. Only special edition coins are minted at this purity level.

The Royal Canadian Mint initially minted the Gold Maple Leaf coins in only the 1 oz ($50) denomination. The RCM added the 1/4 oz ($10) and 1/10 oz ($5) denominations in 1982, the 1/2 oz ($20) denomination in 1986, and the 1/20 oz ($1) denomination in 1993. In 1994, the RCM minted a 1/15 oz denomination Gold Maple Leaf, however, due to lack of demand for this unique size, it was not issued again. The RCM issued the 1/25 oz denomination Gold Maple Leaf in 2015 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Canadian Flag. This coin’s mintage was limited to just 7,500 coins.

The obverse of the 2011 1 oz Gold Maple Leaf coin features a right-facing profile of Queen Elizabeth II. This version of Her Majesty was created in 2003 by Canadian artist Susanna Blunt. This is the first coin to feature the Queen without a crown. Since 1952, all Canadian coinage has featured some version of Queen Elizabeth II.

The reverse of the 2011 1 oz Gold Maple Leaf features the unofficial emblem of Canada – the Maple Leaf. Master engraver Walter Ott created this Maple Leaf design in 1979 for the RCM, and it has continued basically unchanged. The Maple Leaf is a symbol of pride and nationalism for Canadians.

The Gold Canadian Maple Leaf is deemed legal tender. It is also regarded as the standard by which other 24-karat gold bullion coins are judged due to the consistency of its design and its mintage.

Where does your spot price come from?

We use a live, up-to-the-second spot price feed supplied by Xignite.com, a worldwide leader in the data supply market.

Are your products actually in stock?

Yes. We are one of the few bullion dealers in the industry who only deems products "in stock" when we have them on-hand and ready to ship immediately. In the instance of a presale item, we denote that the product is on presale and the estimated shipping date. While we make the best efforts to hit presale dates, the dates are only estimates, given we cannot control mint production issues and/or carrier dealyes.

Why are multiple prices listed?

We offer a 4% discount to "cash" paying customers - with paper check, bank wire, and bitcoin payments being defined as cash. On many products, we are also able to offer volume discounts to customers purchasing large quantities of the same item. All volume pricing is laid out in the chart on the product's description page, as well as in the cart.

When do I lock in my price?

All prices are locked in at the time of purchase. Credit/debit card, PayPal, BitCoin, Ethereum, and Ripple orders are paid at the time of checkout, while paper check and bank wire orders require a credit/debit card on file to lock in your pricing while we await your payment. Please note, paper check and bank wire orders will NOT result in a charge to your card - we simple maintain the card on file while we await full payment by your selected payment method.

Do you ship internationally?

We currently only ship to addresses in the United States, including APOs.
