The Buffalo Nickel was designed by James Earle Fraser in 1913 and authorized by the administration of President William Howard Taft. The design replaced the Liberty Head Nickel and was used from 1913 to 1938. After the Buffalo Nickel concluded, it was replaced by the current Jefferson Nickel design.

In 2006, the US Mint revived the popular images from the Buffalo Nickel on its first-ever 24-karat gold release. The Gold American Buffalo is available in BU and Proof, with a special reverse proof issued in 2013 to mark the centennial of its namesake inspiration, the Buffalo Nickel. Reverse-proof coins have mirrored design elements with frosted background fields.

The obverse of 2013-W 1 oz Reverse Proof Gold Buffalos features a portrait of an indigenous figure. Designed in 1913 by Fraser, it shows the indigenous tribal figure in right-profile relief. On the reverse of 2013-W 1 oz Proof Gold American Buffalos is an image of the American bison, North America’s largest living land mammal.

These 2013-W 1 oz Reverse Proof Gold American Buffalos are in near-perfect condition. PF69 and PR69 coins showcase full, original mint luster and have a maximum of two minor detractions. Acceptable flaws at this grade level include only minuscule contact marks or hairlines located outside the primary focal points of the coin.

Silver.com offers these coins with the possibility of random labels and grading house designations. We cannot guarantee which ones you receive and would like you to note that you can get matching labels when buying multiples.
