As national sites go in the US, there is perhaps none more important to the country’s history than Saratoga National Historical Park. The park honors the American victory over the British Army at the Battle of Saratoga. Here the Continental Army under General Horatio Gates defeated a British force under General John Burgoyne, handing the Americans their first decisive victory, and convincing the French crown to lend vital aid to the American cause.
Each of these 2015 5 oz Saratoga ATB Silver Coins is available with an MS69 grade from the PCGS. Coins in this condition exhibit full, original mint luster, but also include a maximum of two minor detracting flaws. These coins also feature a PL designation, meaning that although they are bullion products, they exhibit proof-like finishes common on collector’s coins instead.
As a First Strike product, these coins arrived at a PCGS or PCGS-approved depository within the first 30 days of release. The release date is set by the US Mint, and determines qualification for the First Strike label and designation.
On the reverse of the coin is the image of General John Burgoyne handing over his sword to General Horatio Gates as a sign of surrender. The obverse bears the left-profile portrait of President George Washington, the nation’s first elected leader.
