Star Trek has seen an outpouring of support this year as the franchise is celebrating its 50th anniversary. The show was created in 1966 by Gene Roddenberry. Since then, there have been a number of different series of the show, including The Original Series and Next Generation. As part of the Star Trek Scenes series, these silver coins celebrate one of the most iconic scenes from The Original Series. The episode, The Trouble with the Tribbles, aired in 1967.
In the episode, the Enterprise get a distress call from Deep Space Station K-7 to help with protecting a grain called quadrotriticale from a Federation official. Uhura is then given a creature called a tribble that is very cuddly. The tribble quickly multiplies and gets in the grains.
The reverse of the coin shows Captain Kirk, played by William Shatner, dealing with the fluffy tribbles. Also on this side of the coin, you will see the nation of issue, face value and year of issue for the coin.
The obverse of each 2016 1 oz Proof Silver Canadian Star Trek The Trouble With Tribbles Coins feature the right-profile image of Queen Elizabeth II, which was created in 2003 by Susanna Blunt. Engravings on this side of the coin include the Queen’s name and the phrase “D.G. Regina.”
The Royal Canadian Mint was founded in 1908 in Ottawa. As the sovereign mint of the country, a second location was opened in Winnipeg in the 1980s to expand production capacity.
Each coin will ship inside a display box in a Star Trek-themed shipper box created by the Royal Canadian Mint.
