The story of Daniel and the lion’s den is one that highlights the jealous of non-Jews toward successful Jews, along with an imperial edict requiring Jews to compromise their religion. Daniel is a trusted advisor of Darius the Mede, but jealous rivals of Daniel convince Darius to condemn him to death in the lion’s den.
Daniel is dropped into the Den of lions, even as Darius hopes for his deliverance. God delivers Daniel from the den alive though, sending an angel to close the jaws of the lions because he was “blameless before him.” The imagery used on these 2016 2 oz Silver Daniel in the Den of Lions Biblical Coins comes from French artist Gustave Dore.
All Silver Biblical Coin Series releases are shipped in Bible-themed display boxes that include an individually numbered Certificate of Authenticity. The coins are struck in high relief of rimless blanks for enhanced detail and visual beauty, with laser-engraved edge-lettering denoting their individual serial numbers.
The reverse of the 2016 2 oz Silver Daniel in the Den of Lions Biblical Coin features Dore’s depiction of Daniel standing in the den amidst a group of lions and piles of human bones. Dore was a French artist whose illustrations for the Bible were released in total in 1866 and had a major exhibition of those works in London in 1867.
On the obverse of all Silver Biblical Coins from the Scottsdale Mint is Queen Elizabeth II’s effigy. Her Majesty’s portrait appearing on these coins is the third-generation design from Raphael Maklouf, and was in use on British and commonwealth coinage from 1984 to 1997.
