The Silver Chinese Panda coin, and its gold counterpart, are popular annual purchases because of the nature of the coin series. The reverse design of the Temple of Heaven remains the same with each new release, but the panda image used on the obverse of the coin has changed every year during its more than 30-year history, with the exception of 2001 and 2002.
Pandas are an indigenous species to the Asian continent, and found only within the modern-day boundaries of the People’s Republic of China. The panda inhabits mostly the mountains and lowland regions of China’s central provinces.
Each 2017 Silver Chinese Panda Coin available to you today is in BU condition. Coins in BU condition have no signs of wear and tear, though you may notice a range of minor flaws including breaks in the luster, spotted surfaces, and contact marks from the production process at the mint.
These 2017 Silver Pandas have a brilliant 24-karat gold layer applied to the reverse design field, known as a gilded finish. This application enhances the visual brilliance of the coin itself and adds to the collectible value as gilded coins are often produced in low numbers.
On the obverse of the Silver Panda you’ll find the exclusive 2017 design. Yet another new image, this time you can find the panda sitting on its hindquarters as it works to take apart a bamboo branch for a meal. The use of a bamboo wall as a back-border for the design field is used, and only the panda itself has the gilded layering.
The reverse of all 2017 Silver Chinese Panda coins includes the Temple of Heaven’s image from the outside. Part of a larger religious and social complex, the Temple of Heaven was erected in the 1500s in south-central Beijing, and was originally a place of social gathering used even by the ruling emperors of China.
These specimens have their gilded finish applied by Emporium Hamburg, a third-party authorized coin dealer located in Germany.
