The Gold American Eagle coin has never changed in design since its release in 1986, but the variety of the program has grown as time has passed. When the coins were initially released, there were all four weights of 1 oz, ½ oz, ¼ oz, and 1/10 oz available in bullion. That same year, the Proof Gold Eagle had a 1 oz offering.

In 1987, the Proof Gold American Eagle expanded with a ½ oz coin. In 1988, the series gained a ¼ oz and 1/10 oz proof coin. The latest addition was the burnished Gold Eagle, which was then and still is available only in the 1 oz weight. Gold American Eagle bullion coins remain the choice of many North American investors, with gold content and weight guaranteed by the US government.

All 2018 ½ oz Gold American Eagle Coins in this product listing have been certified as perfect specimens by the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation. Coins with an MS70 grade have full, original mint luster and no detracting flaws of any kind. Coins with an ER, or Early Release, label arrived for certification within 30 days of their 2018 release date from the United States Mint.

On the obverse of all 2018 Gold American Eagle coins is Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ Liberty design. It was created in 1907 and captures the full figure of Liberty as she walks forward into the future from the capital city of Washington DC with a torch in one hand and olive branch in the other.

The reverse of all 2018 ½ oz Gold American Eagle Coins includes a design of the bald eagle. In this particular design from Miley Busiek, the family of nesting bald eagles is captured with a male flying over the nest while a female stands guard over the hatchlings.
