Jody Clark is the Royal Mint coin designer and engraver behind the popular images of the Queen’s Beast Series thus far. Clark has created the Queen’s Beast coin series based upon the sculptures of heraldic beasts featured during Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation ceremony, with the original six-foot tall statues created by sculptor James Woodford RA.
Clark isn’t just the coin designer of the reverse images in the Queen’s Beast collection, he is also the designer of the latest fifth-generation portrait of Her Majesty to feature on British coinage. At just 33 years old, Clark became the youngest Royal Mint engraver to develop the Queen’s effigy for British coins.
The 2018 1 oz Gold British Queen’s Beast Unicorn Coins in this listing are in BU condition. Coins in this condition show no signs of wear and tear, but do have possible minor flaws present. These flaws are limited to breaks in the luster, spotted surfaces, or contact marks stemming from the production process.
On the reverse of all 2018 1 oz Gold British Queen’s Beast Unicorn Coins is the image of Scotland’s national symbol. Adopted into the Scottish coat of arms in the 12th century during the rule of William I of Scotland, the Unicorn of Scotland was later adopted into the British coat of arms during unification that lead to the United Kingdom.
The obverse of all Gold British Queen’s Beast Coins features the aforementioned design from Clark of Queen Elizabeth II’s effigy. Her Majesty is captured in right-profile relief, and this new design is available on British coins from 2016 onward. It reflects the Queen at the age of 89.
