When the Proof Gold American Eagle coins were first issued, the United States Mint did not use a mintage cap on the coins in any given year. It wasn’t until 1993 that the US Mint capped the mintage of the coins for particular release years. Throughout much of the 21^st century to date, the US Mint has steered clear of mintage caps amidst higher demand for gold coins.

For the 2018 Proof Gold American Eagle coins, the United States Mint is introducing low mintage caps on the coins. The 2018-W ¼ oz Proof Gold American Eagle coin has a mintage level capped at a very low level of just 7,100 coins in total. The 1 oz coin has the highest cap at 25,000, followed closely by the 1/10 oz coin at 22,000.

On the obverse of 2018 Proof Gold American Eagles is the iconic image of Liberty created by Augustus Saint-Gaudens. Approached by President Theodore Roosevelt to lead a charge in reimaging all American gold coin design, Saint-Gaudens came up with the breathtaking depiction of Liberty walking forward from Washington DC to lead the nation into the future.

The reverse of the 2018-W ¼ oz Proof Gold American Eagle Coin includes the design from Miley Busiek. Created just for the Gold Eagle Series, this design features a male eagle flying over the female eagle at the nest as she guards the hatchlings.

All 2018 Proof Gold Eagles available here today are in perfect PF70 condition according to the NGC. Coins in this condition have full, original mint luster with no detracting flaws at all. The UCAM designation denotes the presence of strong, frosted matte finishes on the design sets and deeply-mirrored, clear backgrounds.

The Early Release label in the slab marks the timely arrival of the coins for certification. To earn the ER label, coins have to arrive at the NGC within 30 days of their 2018 release date from the United States Mint.

Are your products actually in stock?

Yes. We are one of the few bullion dealers in the industry who only deems products "in stock" when we have them on-hand and ready to ship immediately. In the instance of a presale item, we denote that the product is on presale and the estimated shipping date. While we make the best efforts to hit presale dates, the dates are only estimates, given we cannot control mint production issues and/or carrier dealyes.

Why are multiple prices listed?

We offer a 4% discount to "cash" paying customers - with paper check, bank wire, and bitcoin payments being defined as cash. On many products, we are also able to offer volume discounts to customers purchasing large quantities of the same item. When do I lock in my price?
