The Germania Series from the Germania Mint captures various images of the female personification of Germany. The image of Germania arose during the Romantic Era from 1800 to 1850, and was increasingly featured in German culture and art during the Revolutions of 1848. Following the political upheaval of that era, the German Empire began to take shape.
When the German Empire formed in 1871, Germania was often featured as an emblem of the empire and the people. She is often depicted wearing a wreath crown with a sword and shield, the latter symbols representing her status as the defender of the German Empire. With each new release in the Germania Series, the Germania Mint offers a different depiction of her figure.
The obverse of these 2019 1 oz Antique Silver Germania Rounds features the debut image of Germania. The front-facing relief includes a shield with the double-headed eagle in her right hand and a drawn sword in her left. This side includes the Iron Cross with a red diamond finish.
On the reverse side of 2019 Antique Silver Germania Rounds is an image of the double-headed eagle seal of the Germania Mint. The double-headed eagle was historically popular as a heraldic figure in the seals of various empires. From the Roman Empire to the German Empire, the double-headed eagle has represented a people’s view of their past and vision for the future with its two heads facing opposite directions.
These 2019 1 oz Antique Silver Germania Rounds are available with an antique polish on the background field of both sides, as well as a layer of gilded gold on the design elements on both sides. The obverse includes a red diamond finish on the Iron Cross. The rounds are packaged inside capsules and housed in presentation boxes. Each one comes with a Certificate of Authenticity. The individual serial number of the round is on the obverse field.
