While the 1 oz coin often easily outsells the 1/2 oz and 1/4 oz options and does hold some of the program’s highest mintage figures in its history, the 1/10 oz coin has an established history of surpassing the 1 oz coin in mintage within the program.

On the obverse side of 2020 Gold American Eagle Coins is the image of Lady Liberty. This front-facing relief of Liberty captures her with her hair down and blowing in the wind as she walks toward the viewer. She holds a large torch aloft in her right hand and the olive branch of peace in her left. You can see the US Capitol Building in the design field background in the lower-left.
This image of Lady Liberty was created by Augustus Saint-Gaudens in 1907. President Theodore Roosevelt launched an initiative in 1905 by personally contacting Saint-Gaudens to redesign some of the nation’s currency designs. Saint-Gaudens’ Liberty image was the first to reinvent American coin designs and bring the country’s currency appearance into the 20th century.
For the reverse of 2020 1 oz Gold Eagles, an exclusive design of American bald eagles is featured. Miley Busiek created this imagery in 1986 and it depicts a male eagle in flight over the family nest which holds a female and a hatchling.
