The Silver Tokelau Terra coin release in 2020 is the first design in a multi-year series focused on the value and beauty of planet Earth. As CO2 levels rise and the planet’s climate begins to change, many are calling for action to reduce the stress on the planet and preserve the delicate balance of ecosystems that help support life on this rock.

In the debut design, a broad view of the beauty of planet Earth is encapsulated in a design that focuses on the inhabited continents of the world. Planet Earth has seven continents in all, but only six of those are inhabited by people. Antarctica has no permanent inhabitants and is not prominently featured in the design even though it too is feeling the effects of a changing global climate.

The obverse of 2020 1 oz Silver Tokelau Terra Coins comes with an effigy of Queen Elizabeth II and maps of the Asian and Australian continents, as well as the Oceania region of the world. The portrait of Her Majesty is a right-profile depiction that was created by Ian Rank-Broadley in 1998. The design field includes inscriptions of the nation of issue, year of issue, series name, and face value. Just below the face value, you will notice the GPS coordinates of the islands of Tokelau and in the design field there is a star over Tokelau’s location in the South Pacific.

On the reverse side of 2020 Silver Tokelau Terra Coins is a view of the Atlantic Ocean with the European and African continents to the east and the North American and South American continents to the west.
