The Philadelphia Mint previously coined the bullion Silver American Eagles in 1999 and 2000 as the series was transitioning from its original home at the San Francisco Mint to its current home at the West Point Mint. However, with a global pandemic reducing staffing and eventually shuttering the West Point Mint for seven days as global demand for 2020 Silver Eagles was rising, the Philadelphia Mint answered the call with an emergency issue of 240,000 Silver Eagles. Right now, 2020 (P) 1 oz Silver American Eagles in near-perfect condition are available to purchase online at Silver.com.

Each of the 2020 (P) 1 oz Silver American Eagles in this product listing comes with a near-perfect certification. A Mint State 69 coin exhibits full, original mint luster with a maximum of two minor detracting flaws present. Examples of acceptable flaws include only minuscule contact marks or hairlines that are found outside of the primary focal points of the coin. Also included in the slab is the First Strike label, indicating that each coin was received within the first 30 days after release from the United States Mint.
Between April 8 and April 20, 2020, the United States Mint enlisted the Philadelphia Mint to provide emergency coining capacity to help meet the increased demand for the Silver Eagles. This overlapped with a closure of the West Point Mint between April 15 and April 21, 2020, that was squeezing production capacity at the mint.
The obverse of 2020 (P) 1 oz Silver American Eagles includes the image of Walking Liberty. The vision of Walking Liberty shown here captures her figure walking toward the sun on the horizon with her right hand reaching out for the brightness of a new day. Her left hand carries the branches of oak and laurel as she wears the American flag draped over her shoulders.
On the reverse side of the 2020 (P) 1 oz Silver Eagle is the heraldic eagle of the United States. Modified for this coin series in 1986 by John Mercanti, the design includes an American bald eagle with a triangular cluster of 13 stars above its head representing the original American colonies that formed the United States.
