The Chinese Lunar Calendar, also known as the Zodiac, consists of 12 different animals. Each one of these animals is assigned to a specific year in the 12-year cycle of the calendar and repeats each time the cycle restarts. For example, the Year of the Ox is in 2021 and recently appeared in 2009 and 1997 going back in 12-year increments.

Each animal was assigned a year to represent not by random choice, but rather by its arrival to a meeting with the Jade Emperor. The ox is second behind the mouse. As myth suggests, the mouse was on its way to the meeting when it encountered a rushing river it could not cross. It hitched a ride with the ox and jumped off just before meeting the Jade Emperor to arrive first.

The obverse side of 2021 1/2 oz Silver Australian Lunar Ox Coins includes a modern bust of Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majesty is found here in right-profile relief with the George IV State Diadem Crown on her head. The design is the first on an Australian coin since 1966 to include the Queen’s neckline and shoulders in the portrait.

On the reverse face of the 2021 Silver Australian Lunar Ox Coins, you will find a depiction of the ox for the Year of the Ox. In keeping with other silver coins in this collection, two oxen are featured in the design element. An adult ox is shown with a young calf standing nearby as a quiet village is depicted in the distant background.

These 2021 1/2 oz Silver Australian Lunar Ox Coins are available in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. The coins in this series and weight are available individually inside of acrylic capsules and in multiples of 100 coins inside of a box.
