Introduced in 1986, the Gold American Eagles from the United States Mint have been issued annually in the BU Series since that time. From 1986 to 2021, the coins featured the same designs on the obverse and reverse each year. As 2021 marks the 35th anniversary of the series, the US Mint chose to develop and release a new reverse design for the coins. In mid-2021, the new design was released for production. Now, 2021 1/4 oz Gold American Eagles are available to you for purchase online from Silver.com in perfect condition.

Gold Eagles from the United States Mint have long featured the same design elements on the obverse and reverse fields. Lady Liberty from Augustus Saint-Gaudens has featured on the coins since 1986 and had originally featured on the Gold $20 Double Eagle. The original reverse design for this series was created in 1986 by Miley Busiek.

However, in mid-2021, the US Mint debuted a new design element on the reverse. The 2021 release marked the 35th anniversary of the series. The US Mint issued two versions of the coin with Type 1 coins in the first half of the year featuring the original Miley Busiek design one final time. Starting in July 2021, the US Mint issued the new Type 2 design, creating a bridge in the 35th-anniversary date from the original design to the new design.

The obverse of 2021 1/4 oz Gold Eagles features the historic Liberty design from Saint-Gaudens. This image shows Liberty in front-facing relief with a torch in her right hand and an olive branch in her left hand.

On the reverse side of 2021 Gold American Eagles is a new bald eagle design on Type 2 coins. The Type 2 release features a bald eagle in left-profile relief with incredible detail in the physical features of the bird.

These 2021 1/4 oz Gold American Eagles are perfect specimens with a Mint State 70 certification. Coins in this condition showcase full, original mint luster and have no detractions present. These Type 2 Gold Eagles have the new bald eagle design created by Jennie Norris.
