The Year of the Ox is second in the 12-year cycle of the Chinese Lunar Calendar. The Zodiac features one animal for each of those 12 years with the representative animal’s characteristics and traits said to be associated with those born under the sign of each beast. For example, those born in 2021, 2009, and 1997, the most recent Years of the Ox, are diligent, persistent, and honest. Just like the hard-working ox.
The obverse face of 2021 1 oz Silver Australian Lunar Ox Coins features Queen Elizabeth II in right-profile relief. The Queen’s bust as shown here is the sixth-generation Australian effigy of Her Majesty and was created in July 2015 by Jody Clark. This design shows the Queen at the age of 89 with the George IV State Diadem Crown.
On the reverse side of the 2021 Silver Australian Lunar Ox Coin is a depiction of two oxen. The image includes an adult ox with its young calf standing nearby. The two are found underneath the large branch of a cherry blossom tree. The design field includes the Chinese symbol for an ox and the background depicts a small farming village.
