Tales of good versus evil have fascinated people ever since stories have been told. Many cultures have their own versions of the ultimate fight of good against evil, told and re-told for centuries. One of the lesser-known stories can be found in Korean folklore. Inspired by the lunar calendar, the myth presents 12 Guardians, each assigned to a lunar animal. Together, these Guardians are given the role of protecting against the forces of evil. The new 2021 South Korean Zi:Sin Medals feature the Guardian Taurus, who is both a watchful protector and the God of War.

On the obverse side of the 2021 Silver South Korean Zi:Sin Taurus Medals is the Doggaebi. This formidable creature is a South Korean legend, tasked with warding off evil spirits. The design is inspired by a roof tile dating back to the Silla Dynasty. Below this creature, KOMSCO is spelled out in large lettering. Inscribed on the edges of the coin is the medal’s purity, weight, country, and date. Rather than 1 Troy oz, the obverse reads 1 Clay. This is simply KOMSCO’s equivalent of the Troy oz.

The reverse of the 2021 1 oz Silver South Korean Zi:Sin Taurus Medals has a depiction of the Guardian Taurus. He wears protective armor as he forges a sword. With his flowing hair and dominant stance, Taurus appears ready for whatever the evil forces have in store for him. On the edge of the reverse are the words Zi:Sin Taurus.
