Trained as a draft animal, the ox is a large bovine that is referred to as the bullock in Australia and India. Oxen are believed to have first been harnessed and worked on farms by human beings around 4000 BCE. Working male oxen are often castrated to make them easier to control and work with, leading to the reputation of the ox as being persistent, hardworking, and diligent. The ox appears in the second year of the 12-year cycle in the Zodiac.

All of the 2021 2 oz Gold Australian Lunar Ox Coins available at Silver.com come with individual protective acrylic capsules. The coins you purchase here are in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. The Perth Mint uses an unlimited mintage for this weight in the series, indicating it will continue striking new specimens until late 2021 when the next design in the Lunar Series III collection is released.

On the obverse side of 2021 Gold Australian Lunar Ox Coins is a bust of Queen Elizabeth II. This portrait of the Queen was designed in 2015 by Jody Clark for the Royal Mint of England and began to feature on Australian coins from the Perth Mint in 2018. The Lunar Series III collection introduced in 2020 was the first lunar coin to use this sixth-generation effigy of Her Majesty in right-profile relief.

The reverse face of the 2021 2 oz Gold Australian Lunar Ox Coins depicts the hardworking draft animal. This male bull is shown with its powerful frame and sharp horns on its head. Bamboo stalks are included in the design. Ing Ing Jong is the artist of note for this series. She has worked on Lunar Series collections at the Perth Mint since 2013 when she created the Year of the Snake design for the Lunar Series II collection.
