Each 2021-W 1 oz Proof Gold American Eagle Type 1 Coin available in this Silver.com listing is a perfect specimen. Coins with a PR69 certification are near-perfect specimens that exhibit full, original mint luster with no more than two minor detracting flaws. Acceptable flaws at this grade level include only minuscule contact marks or hairlines that must be located outside of the primary focal points of the coin. Additionally, the DCAM designation indicates a coin that has deep-cameo-proof visuals. This means the designs have a strong, frosted finish that contrasts the deeply-mirrored, clear field of the coin.

The Type 1 release in 2021 was the first of two releases in 2021 for the Gold Eagle coins. Part of the 35th anniversary of the series and the transition from the original reverse design to the new reverse design, the Type 1 coins were available only in BU and Proof. Burnished coins were not issued in the Type 1 version, with the coin returning after midyear with the Type 2 issues bearing the new reverse design.

The obverse of 2021-W Proof Gold Eagles comes with the historic Liberty vision from Augustus Saint-Gaudens. Designed in 1907, it shows Liberty in front-facing relief walking away from the U.S. Capitol Building at her feet as she holds up a torch in her right hand and an olive branch in her left.

On the reverse side of the 2021-W 1 oz Proof Gold Eagle is a depiction of a family of American bald eagles. This design was created for this series in 1986 by Miley Busiek and depicts a female eagle with hatchlings in a nest as a male eagle soars overhead.
